In this month’s podcast, our panel dives into the concept of Glimmers -those small, positive moments of safety, calm, or emotional connection that can offer hope and healing, especially for those who have experienced trauma.
What Are Glimmers?
Glimmers are considered to be the opposite of triggers. Whilst triggers can activate distress and fear, glimmers do the opposite and spark feelings of peace, security, and connection within us. They are those moments in which the world feels just a little bit safer - this could be a warm smile, a kind word, the feeling of sunlight on your face, or the comfort of a familiar scent.
For individuals who have faced trauma, recognizing and embracing these life glimmers can be a powerful part of the healing journey. These moments help to regulate the nervous system, build emotional resilience, and reinforce a true sense of well-being.
Why Noticing Glimmers Matters
It is easy to get caught up in life's negatives and challenges, especially within trauma-informed work. However, making an effort to notice the positives, what we call the glimmers, can alter perspectives, foster emotional healing, and bring a sense of balance to everyday life.
