PSYCHOLOGY

Team Around the Home Support

Team Around the Homes are group reflection sessions available to Children's Homes once they have completed their Foundations for Attachment (PACE) training (Golding, 2015).

These three-hour sessions provide an opportunity to explore and embed the psychological theories covered in the training, reflecting on how the home is parenting the children in its care. They also create a supportive space for adults to discuss personal challenges and struggles within this parenting role, particularly when caring for children who have experienced developmental trauma. Parenting is inherently challenging, and it is essential that all those involved feel supported.

Aims:

  • To embed psychological theory: Supporting staff in applying the concepts from the Foundations for Attachment (PACE) training to their daily parenting practices within the home.

  • To reflect on parenting approaches: Encouraging discussion on how the home nurtures and supports children in its care, ensuring a consistent and trauma-informed approach.

  • To provide emotional support for staff: Offering a safe space for caregivers to share personal challenges and struggles, fostering resilience and emotional well-being.

  • To enhance the support network: Strengthening team cohesion and ensuring all staff feel valued and supported in their role of parenting children who have experienced developmental trauma.

Psychological Formulation

A one-off consultation session will discuss the child’s early experiences in detail to better understand the difficulties they present with and how to respond to these therapeutically. This will include a 2-3 hour session with a clinical psychologist and a report with the background, challenges and recommendations.
